Lover’s Beach

LOVER'S BEACH

Playa del Amor
Did you know why this famous beach of Cabo San Lucas is called Lover’s Beach??

That’s because this beautiful place got two different shores at the same beach, one shore belongs to the Pacific Ocean, commonly knowed as Divorce Beach cause it’s powerful waves breacking at the shore of the beach, the other one belongs to the Sea of Cortez which is the calm, swimmable shore.
This unique beach is located at the Land’s End of Baja Peninsula, close by our famous Arch (emblematic rock monument of Cabo San Lucas) and the sea lion colony (small family of 15-20 sea lions). At the very very last cape of the entire Baja California, the curious thing of this area is that got a island effect and because of it the easiest way to get there is by water taxi, kayak or paddle board.
When there are very big waves at both shores, the two seas, the Sea of Cortez and the Pacific Ocean, kissed each other at Lover’s Beach.
This especial phenomena can only happens every 12 or 18 years, approx. and this is directly related with the phenomena of “El Niño” in the Pacific Ocean which usually bring warmer waters and generates strong tropical storms or even hurricans in Baja California Sur.
Because of this geographic site, the Pericues, native people of Baja California Sur before the spaniards, named the place that we all know as Cabo San Lucas “Yenekamu”, it translation in spanish is “lugar entre dos aguas” (place between two waters), probably the meaning of the two waters is for the two seas.

Next time you visit Los Cabos come and enjoy our beautiful Lover’s Beach so you can live the experience of swimming at the Sea of Cortes and walking along the Pacific Ocean.
